Swimming Australia Announce Exclusive Two-Year Broadcast Deal With Amazon Prime Video

S
wimming Australia have announced an exclusive two-year broadcast deal with Amazon Prime Video, marking the first time the streaming service will show a live Australian sporting event.

Live streaming will include the 2021 Australian Swimming Trials in the lead up to the 2020 Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games, whilst also showing the qualifying events for the 2022 FINA World Swimming Championships, and the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

The new deal will come at no additional cost to existing Amazon Prime members.

In a press release, Prime Video Australia head, Hushidar Kharas, said the partnership allows for potential growth in the streaming platform’s programming.

“Amazon Prime Video has already established itself as the home of captivating Australian sports docu-series including The Test and the upcoming Making Their Mark,” Kharas said.

“The launch of live sports streaming on Prime Video in Australia is a natural progression for us,” he said.

The announcement comes just four months after Swimming Australia parted ways with the Seven Network due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In a statement, Swimming Australia president, Kieren Perkins, said the deal provides “fantastic opportunities to deliver premium live swimming content to Australians and a global Prime Video audience”.

“Our current generation of swimmers, including those who have an eye on competing in Paris 2024 and beyond, will love being able to live stream the sport wherever they are,” Perkins said.

The first event streamed on Amazon Prime Video will be the Australian Swimming Trials, commencing in Adelaide between 12-17 June in the lead up to the Olympic Games.
