Super Netball Set For Brisbane Grand Final
uncorp Super Netball has revealed Brisbane’s Nissan Arena will host the 2021 Grand Final, with the entire finals series set to be played out in South-East Queensland over the next three weeks.
The news comes as Queensland exits its COVID-19 lockdown, with Queensland Health officials confirming on Sunday sporting venues would be permitted to hold 50% capacity.
Netball Australia CEO, Kelly Ryan, said the league is currently in discussions with Queensland Health to determine the number of fans permitted to attend the finals series.
“We would like to thank all the teams for their determination and sacrifice in what has been a very challenging season,” Ryan said.
“It’s fantastic to lock in the finals fixture, which will bring plenty of excitement to netball fans right across the country.
“We would also like to thank the Queensland Government for their support of the Suncorp Super Netball competition, especially over the past two seasons,” she said.
Queensland Tourism and Sport Minister, Stirling Hinchcliffe, said the Queensland Government is excited to support the netball competition.
“We know the global pandemic has thrown up complex challenges for many in our community,” Hinchliffe said.
“Super Netball has shown great tenacity in making sure the show goes on for the finals series in a COVID-safe environment.
“Channel 9’s commitment to a national broadcast of the Suncorp Super Netball League’s finals series means fans around Australia can share the inspiration of women who are elite athletes and outstanding role models.
“Queenslander netball fans will be thrilled to host the second, consecutive Super Netball League Grand Final.
“Events like the Super Netball League finals series shows Queensland’s growth as a national sporting hub ahead of Brisbane’s 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games,” he said.
