NRL And Therabody Agree New Partnership

T
ech wellness company, Therabody, have become the official recovery partner of the National Rugby League (NRL).

The deal covers both the men’s and women’s premierships, with Therabody to also work with Australia’s national rugby league teams, the Kangaroos and Jillaroos.

As part of the partnership, the NRL will receive education on the importance of maximising player recovery between matches.

This announcement comes with a notable rise in player injuries throughout the first five rounds of the NRL season, which has prompted the players union to raise concerns regarding the increased intensity of matches.

Theragun was launched in 2016 by chiropractor Dr Jason Wersland after he suffered a life-altering injury.

The company is well known as the creator of the first hand-held percussive massage therapy device, the Theragun.

Their signature device is able to reduce muscle tension, accelerate recovery, and improve performance.

NRL head of partnerships, Jaymes Boland-Rudder, believes rugby league and Therabody share a similar vision for high performance in sports.

“Effective recovery is critical for the well-being of rugby league players – whether they’re young guns or seasoned players,” Boland-Rudder said.

“Just as the game has evolved, so has the technology our athletes use to play at the highest standard,” he said.

Therabody founder and chief wellness officer, Dr. Jason Wersland, said his company will meet the needs of elite players.

“Rugby league is known for being one of the most intense, full-contact sports and it has incredible demands on both the body and mind,” Wersland said.

“We’re honoured to be developing the league’s recovery protocols to ensure that each athlete is not only performing at their highest ability on the pitch, but that they are optimizing their overall well-being far beyond the pitch,” he said.

Therabody also recently announced a partnership with Formula One team Red Bull Racing.
