Budweiser Makes Long-Term NFT Play
udweiser owner Anheuser-Busch is planning to grow its NFT crossover content into including ticketing and merchandise.
Anheuser-Busch vice president of global brands, Richard Oppy, told CoinDesk the company is “investing in a new NFT media shop run by internet entrepreneur Gary Vaynerchuk called VaynerNFT.”
According to CoinDesk the move will initially focus on the intellectual property of Budweiser, the ‘world’s most valuable beer brand’, which Statista report was worth $14 billion (AUD$19 billion) in 2020.
Oppy said; “[Budweiser’s breadth] gave us an opportunity, we thought to go big into NFTs, because we don’t think that this is just a fad.”
“We think that this is going to change the way people think about their sponsorship properties in the future,” he said.
CoinDesk report Oppy and Vaynerchuk were exploring the potential of experiential NFTs which could offer “NFT-holding sports and music fans access to their stars they couldn’t get elsewhere.”
“You can take it even further than that, like imagine if you had an NFT that allowed you to get a beer, a fresh beer from any of our breweries around the world,” Oppy said.
NFTs being created include tokens for collectibles, memorabilia, apparel, merchandise, experiences, Super Bowl tickets and sideline spots at the World Cup, CoinDesk state.
With its strong affiliation as a sponsor of many sporting and music events, Oppy and Vaynerchuk believe “digital ticket stubs could one day result in big money.”
“I think all the ticketing that we’re involved with around the world… they’re all going to be NFTs in the future,” Oppy said.
“We’re already rethinking some of the way we structure our deals, whether it’s with our celebrities…” he said.
On the other end of the NFT spectrum, Australian basketballer and Utah Jazz star, Joe Ingles has offed the a case of the beer as currency in exchange for fellow Jazz teammate Georges Niang’s NFT.
Ingles commented on Niang’s Instagram post offering a case of Bud Light in exchange for Niang’s 1 of 1 NFT which includes a personal 10 minute Zoom call between himself and the winner.
